Bloomington/Monroe County Human Rights Commission Seeks Student Voices for 2025 Art & Essay Contest2/13/2025 The Bloomington/Monroe County Human Rights Commission invites local students in grades K-6 to participate in its annual Youth Art & Essay Contest, exploring the theme: “How does diversity make our community stronger?”
The contest encourages students to reflect on the value of an inclusive community. The submission deadline is March 12, 2025. “Our goal is to get students thinking about human rights, equality, and how they can contribute to a stronger, more inclusive Bloomington,” said Michael Shermis, Human Rights Commission liaison. “With ongoing conversations about diversity, we want to emphasize the importance of valuing different backgrounds and perspectives.”

We look forward to his expert perspective.” Daniels served as a two-term governor of the state of Indiana from 2004 to 2012 and as president of Purdue University from 2013 to 2022. The Jokers of Magic is directed and co-created by Constellation’s Artistic Director, Chad Rabinovitz! Chad is no stranger to the magic world – he has created and directed magic acts with some of the world’s most renowned magicians, including Simon Coronel (World Champion of Magic), Shoot Ogawa (World Champion of Magic), Max Major (AGT), and directed the National Tour of Penn & Teller’s Foolers. He is excited to be working with Nick Diffatte, Eric Dittleman, Matt Donnelly, and Michael Mills on The Jokers of Magic. ROI’s Annual Report to the Region is returning on February 18 in French Lick. Now in its fifth year, the program has supported neighborhoods across Bloomington in implementing traffic calming measures such as speed humps, resulting in measurable speed reductions and safer streets. Residents interested in proposing traffic calming measures in their neighborhood should submit a letter of intent by Friday, April 4. The full application deadline is Friday, April 25. Applications will be reviewed between May and June and selected projects will be announced in July. The Resident-Led Traffic Calming Program reflects the City’s commitment to safer, more accessible streets for all users. At the regular meeting on Feb. 10, the Board of Public Works approved a request from FA Wilhelm Construction to temporarily close the protected bike lanes on East 7th Street between North Grant Street and North Dunn Street. This closure will be in place from Feb. 17 through Nov. 21, 2025, to accommodate construction on the redevelopment of the former Indiana University Poplars Building site. Pedestrian and cyclist detours will be in place to help maintain accessibility.
To facilitate the safe operation of a crane and other construction equipment at 400 E. 7th Street, the sidewalk on the south side of 7th Street immediately adjacent to the project will also remain closed, with pedestrians directed to the sidewalk on the north side of 7th Street. Additionally, the alley on the south side of the site will be closed for the duration of the project. |
