2026 Primary Election
The 2026 Primary Election is on Tuesday, May 5th. This year, there are many candidates running for local, state and federal office. This site is a nonpartisan resource guide for elected positions that represent all or parts of Monroe County. We encourage you to research the candidates by reading media reports, reviewing each candidate's campaign materials, and contacting candidates directly if you have questions. The deadline to register to vote is Monday, April 6th. In-person early voting starts on Monday, April 6th. You can apply for an absentee now. The application to request a vote-by-mail ballot must be received not later than 11:59pm, 12 days before the election. Monroe County CouncilIncumbent County Council members Peter Iverson of District 1, Kate Wiltz in District 2, Jennifer Crossley in District 4, and the lone Republican member Marty Hawk in District 3 all face reelection with no primary challengers at this time. Monroe County CommissionerCurrent Monroe County Council members Trent Deckard and David Henry are competing for the District 1 seat held by Lee Jones who is not seeking reelection. Click here for more information on the candidates. Trent Deckard has won the Democratic nomination for Monroe County Commissioner.

U.S. House of Representatives District 9There are 4 Democrats brawling for Congresswoman Erin Houchin's seat for the 9th District. They include Jim Graham, Brad Meyer, Tim Peck, and Keil Roark. Click here for more information on the candidates. Brad Meyer has won the Democratic nomination for the House of Representatives, 9th Congressional District.

Indiana State LegislatureThe House District 61 will see Lilliana Young (D) challenge incumbent Matt Pierce (D). Matt Pierce has won the primary race for State House, District 61. State Representative Bob Heaton (R) will be challenged by Tom Arthur (R) for the Republican seat in House District 46. Bob Heaton won the primary race for State House, District 46. House District 60 faces a couple of challenges to the incumbent Peggy Mayfield (R), including Mike Moore (R) and David Waters (R). Peggy Mayfield won the primary race for State House, District 60. Many Republican Representatives will be challenged in the general election. House District 46 which is currently held by Bob Heaton (R) will be challenged by Jimmy Pittsford (D). Democrat Carrie Syczylo will take on Peggy Mayfield for House District 60. Finally, incumbent Dave Hall (R) will face Amy Oliver (D) for the House District 62 seat. Monroe County Clerk
Monroe County Clerk Nicole Browne cannot run again due to term limits, but three Democrats will compete for her seat. Those three democrats are Tanner Branham, Tree Lucas, and Joe Davis. Click here for more information about the candidates. Tree Martin-Lucas won the Monroe County Clerk Democratic Primary, and will face the Republican candidate, Julie Hays, in the General Election.
