Why are you seeking public office and what are your qualifications?

The Clerk's office is often the front door of city government, the first one that citizens come to when they enter City Hall. I truly enjoy helping folks find the services that they need in city government, and want to insure that those citizens have a good interaction with their government.
I'm proud that I have been able to build on the good foundation of this office left to me by Pat Williams, the former City Clerk. I've been able to expand and streamline the parking ticket appeals process, and continue to add to the legislative documentation found on the city's website. I want to continue to seek ways to increase visibility for public service opportunities -- for citizens to offer their expertise to the city through memberships on various boards and commissions.

Because I don't report directly to the mayor or the city council, it's my pleasure to work directly for the citizens of Bloomington. A frequent attendee at the Commission on the Status of Women meetings, I've served on their planning committees for both the Women's History Luncheon and the Women's Leadership Seminar, adding the support of my office for these important opportunities for young women to participate in civic engagement. I've hosted a number of interns from Hoosier Hills High School, and Bloomington North and South, giving them an opportunity to develop a first hand understanding of government processes and hopefully sending them off with a deeper appreciation for constituent concerns. For my work with citizens and their needs I received the 2005 Woman of the Year Award by Girls, Inc., and the City of Bloomington's Woman of the Year award in 2007.
